Hexagram 41 — 损 (Sǔn), Decrease

Above: ☶ 艮 Mountain Below: ☱ 兑 Lake

The Judgment

Decrease below to increase above — sincere simplification brings great luck; two plain bowls suffice for the offering.

The Image (Daxiang)

A lake below the mountain — the noble person curbs anger and dams desire.—— 《周易·大象传》(The Image Commentary)

The Tuan Commentary

The Six Line Texts

In Plain Terms

Subtract — less, done sincerely, is more. When you receive this hexagram, hold the judgment beside your question: it describes a posture and a season, not a script.
